ZAMBIA Sugar Plc has released US$150, 000 (about K960, 000) for the hosting of the 2015 Zambia Sugar Open Golf Championship.
Managing director Rebecca Katowa handed over the cheque to organising committee chairperson Roy Penney during the contract signing ceremony at Lusaka Golf Club on Thursday evening.
Katowa said her organisation is proud to be the main sponsors of the event that tees off on April 28.
She said Zambia Sugar Plc is committed to promoting sport in the country and it will continue to play its corporate social responsibility.
And Zambia Golf Union vice-president (South) Jason Kazilimani hailed Zambia Sugar Plc for its continued support towards the development of golf.
“We are looking forward to delivering a bigger and more successful Zambia Sugar Open. We are excited with the support we are receiving from Zambia Sugar,” he said.
Kazilimani also said Zambia Sugar Plc has demonstrated that it is committed to the promotion of golf by upgrading facilities at Mazabuka Golf Club.
He urged other organisations to come on board and join Zambia Sugar Plc in hosting the annual event.
And Penney said the 2015 Zambia Sugar Open Championship will be bigger.
Organising committee spokesperson Nsama Mataka said preparations for the event are progressing smoothly.
At the same function, KPMG, Nico Insurance and Bank ABC contributed US$10, 000 each while Span Africa and MultiChoice pledged US$4, 000 and US$5, 000, respectively.
