Top professional golfer Deo Akope and Uganda’s most prominent golfer, will get his international golfing season underway when he tackles the Zambia Open that tees off from June 5-8 at the Nkana Golf Club, in Kitwe, Zambia.
“I will start my season this week when I take part in the Zambia Open and that will lead me to several tournaments that I have lined up for my schedule,” the Entebbe based golfer said. “It will be my first tournament under MTN after after renewing my contract with them.”
The MTN sponsored golfer renewed his sponsorship with the giant Mobile phone company last year to a tune of $25,000 that will see him once again tackling the lucrative MENA golf tour in the Middle East, which is a springboard for him to make the mark for him to play on the European Challenger Tour.
The Zambia Open is part of the Sunshine tour with several high profile professionals from the African continent taking part.
“I intent to take part in the eight tournaments in the Middle East that is on the Mena tour I hope to take part in around four tournaments in the United Arab Emirates and the other ones will be in Qatar and Oman,” Akope added. “I believe this time around I will be better prepared for the tournaments and I believe I will return with better results.”
Last year Akope made his debut on the Mena tour failing to make the cut, but that was a learning process for him.
Akope this year will be taking part in the Rwanda Open in July, the Uganda Open, the KCB golf series, the Namibia Open and also the Nigeria Open.
