THE Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) has picked Lusaka Golf Club to host the 2013 Zambia Open Championship.
And the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) has saluted the 2012 Zambia Open organising committee for hosting a successful tournament.

ZGU president Charles Mwanza announced on Sunday during a closing ceremony of the 2012 Indo-Zambia Bank Zambia Open Golf Championship that the prestigious annual tournament will be staged in Lusaka.

Mwanza said Lusaka Golf Club is a home of the Zambia Open Golf Championship.

He said it is good that the tournament is back to its original venue after an eight-year absence.
Mwanza said the ZGU used the eight years to build infrastructure at other golf clubs that hosted the tournament like Chainama, Ndola and Nchanga.

Mwanza also said ZGU has resolved to introduce another international tournament next year.
He thanked Indo-Zambia Bank, KCM and other companies that contributed towards the hosting of the Zambia Open.

Mwanza also paid tribute to late David Phiri for his contribution to the development of golf. Phiri died early this year.

And Zambia Open Organising Committee chairman Robert Chomba praised Government for creating an enabling environment for corporate organisations to operate peacefully and then contribute to sports development.

He said it would have been difficult for companies to sponsor sport if Government did not create a conducive working environment.

Ministry of Sport and Youth permanent secretary Agnes Musunga said Government will support all sports disciplines in the country.

Musunga said her ministry is happy with the way golf is being administered in Zambia.
