South Africa’s Martin du Toit shot an amazing 66 seven under par to assume sole leadership of the 2013 Zambia Open Golf tournament which teed off on Thursday, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Friday.
The South African golfer is leading a field of 140 golfers, including defending champion Justin Harding and 2010 winner of the event Adilson Da Silva of Brazil, who is on second position, according to Daily Mail.
The South African sunk nine birdies on his way to carding seven under on day one of the tournament.
“First of all it’s my wife’s birthday today, and this round is for her. Everything went my way today, especially with the putter, and I hope to keep it going through the week. I made nine birdies today,” he was quoted as saying by the paper.
Zambia’s Patrick Mwendapole was the best performing Zambian on day one, carding one under. The Zambia is tied with 21 others who shot 72, according to Daily Mail.
